Was My Qubic Wallet Exposed to Weak Seed Randomness? A QU Holder Checklist

By: WEEX|10/20/2026 07:30:55

To assess whether a Qubic wallet was exposed, compare how it was created with the three combinations named in Qubic’s security update of 18 October 2026 (26 Mehr 1405), and do not reuse a seed that meets those conditions. Do not transfer while Qubic’s official status confirms a network halt; in a first-hand check of WEEX’s QUBIC token and spot pages on 19 October 2026 (27 Mehr 1405), the token page showed “Listed” (WEEX labels QUBIC “Listed.”), while the spot page showed no live price.

What a “weak seed” means, and where Qubic put the cause

A seed is a secret string that works like a wallet password; anyone who has it can access that wallet’s assets. Qubic Docs, “How to Invest in Qubic” (no publication date; page state as of 19 October 2026 / 27 Mehr 1405, Qubic Docs), describes the seed as 55 characters and warns never to share it.

Weak randomness concerns the process that builds that secret string: when the values used to produce a seed are too predictable, an attacker may be able to guess or reconstruct likely seeds. In its security update of 18 October 2026 (26 Mehr 1405), Qubic named this as the cause and said the issue sat in seed generation, not in the Qubic protocol itself (Qubic, Security incident update, 18 October 2026). A more detailed technical account, including how the random value was produced, belongs to a technical write-up Qubic promised and has not yet published.

Which wallets fall inside Qubic's stated scope

Qubic named three seed-creation combinations: any browser on iPhone or iPad before 18 October 2026 (26 Mehr 1405); Safari on Mac before that same date; and the Qubic iOS app before July 2025 (Tir 1404) (Qubic, Security incident update, 18 October 2026).

That list is Qubic's own announced scope, not a clearance for everything else. A wallet created outside the three combinations is not thereby shown to be safe, and if you are unsure of the creation date, device or browser, treat it as undecided rather than risk-free.

The attack window and the figures Qubic published

By Qubic's account, the attack ran from 23:42 UTC on 17 October 2026 (25 Mehr 1405) to 01:26 UTC on 18 October 2026 (26 Mehr 1405), draining roughly 1,404 wallets of about 2.94 trillion QU (Qubic, Security incident update, 18 October 2026). These are the project's own figures, given here as token amounts in QU.

What the halt at tick 85,371,949 does and does not mean

Qubic said Computors coordinated a protective network halt at tick 85,371,949, and that no transactions were processing when it published that update; the aim was that drained funds could not be moved or sold while the matter was examined (Qubic, Security incident update, 18 October 2026).

The halt means transaction processing on the network was paused; it is not a wallet repair or a return of funds. If a current official Qubic status says the network remains halted, do not attempt a QU transfer while it does. Qubic also said it had notified exchanges and that QUBIC deposits and withdrawals had been suspended, so do not assume a deposit or withdrawal path works right now — check that exchange's own current notice rather than this page (Qubic, Security incident update, 18 October 2026).

Version 4.26.4 fixes the generator, not a seed already created

Qubic said it fixed seed generation in wallet version 4.26.4, so no new weak seeds can be created. The official qubic/wallet release page of 18 October 2026 (26 Mehr 1405) records “updated seedgen” and “use cryptographically secure seed generation” in its notes (Qubic Wallet v4.26.4, 18 October 2026); seed production in future creations moved to a cryptographically secure method.

The point that matters: updating does not make an old seed safe. The new version changes the generator, not a seed that was already created under the affected conditions. Do not reuse such a seed, and do not treat a simple wallet update as clearing it.

“Frozen” is not “returned”

In its security update of 18 October 2026 (26 Mehr 1405), Qubic said 87.1% of the drained funds stayed on the Qubic network and remained frozen, while the remaining 12.9% was sent to MEXC; according to Qubic, the receiving account was frozen about an hour later (Qubic, Security incident update, 18 October 2026). These percentages are the project's own report.

“Frozen” or “immobilized” does not mean returned, reimbursed or available to victims, and the official update gives no date for release. Treat that share as awaiting a decision, not as money back.

The next decision is a Computor vote, not a decision already made

By Qubic's account, any decision on the matter rests with the Computor quorum under network rules; Computors are the network's computing units that carry out its work and vote on changes to it. Qubic said its Core team was identifying affected identities and preparing options for that vote, and that a community poll on Discord would inform the Computors (Qubic, Security incident update, 18 October 2026). The matter is therefore still open: Qubic's security update of 18 October 2026 (26 Mehr 1405) reports no completed vote, promised repayment or date for restarting the network (Qubic, Security incident update).

A holder's decision sequence in three separate steps

Setting technical detail aside, the holder's work here splits into three separate questions, each with its own answer.

  1. Establish how the wallet was created. Which device, browser or app made it, and when? If it matches the three combinations Qubic named, treat that wallet's seed as exposed. If you are unsure, leave it undecided rather than risk-free.
  2. Separate the “fixed generator” from an exposed seed. Updating to 4.26.4 stops new weak seeds from being created, but it does not change a seed already made. Do not reuse a seed that meets the conditions, and create any new wallet only after updating.
  3. Separate “frozen” from “returned.” The 87.1% frozen is not a return, and the Computor vote is still open. Until a current official status clarifies the network, do not move funds.

What not to do, and what to keep if you report

  • Never enter or share a seed, private key, account password or one-time code on any website, checker, direct message or recovery form.
  • Do not trust unsolicited recovery messages, seed requests, or paid recovery offers.
  • Follow the network status only through Qubic's official channels, and rely on the current notice from that source.
  • If you follow Qubic's suggestion to report the incident, that update says to report to police or the cybercrime authority in your country and attach the public wallet ID, the amount lost and the transaction link from explorer.qubic.org — without the seed (Qubic, Security incident update, 18 October 2026).

None of these steps promises a return of funds; they are the official reporting path and risk reduction for a holder.

Frequently asked questions

If my wallet was created outside the three combinations, is it safe?

No; it means your wallet was not on Qubic's list, not that its safety has been confirmed. If you are unsure of the creation date, device or browser, treat it as undecided.

Does updating to 4.26.4 bring back lost funds?

No. The version fixes the seed generator for future creations and has no effect on a seed created earlier.

When will frozen funds be released?

Qubic's security update of 18 October 2026 (26 Mehr 1405) gives no date for the release of the funds; the decision depends on a Computor vote (Qubic, Security incident update). Until then, do not treat “frozen” as “returned.”
