Ukraine Exports 4.5 Million Tons of Cargo via Alternative Routes
Ukraine is capable of exporting about 4.5 million tons of cargo monthly thanks to alternative logistics, including the Danube ports, railways, and road transport. This covers a large part of the 6 million tons that were typically provided by the maritime corridor. First Deputy Minister for Restoration, Infrastructure, and Transport Serhiy Derkach noted that information about the collapse of exports is false. Of the 6 million tons transported by sea, about 4 million tons are grain, while 2 million tons consist of metal and iron ore. The Danube ports have tripled their transshipment volumes and can reach up to 3 million tons per month, despite Russian shelling. Ukraine is negotiating with the European Commission and Romania for round-the-clock operation of Romanian pilots on the 'Sulina' canal. Alternative logistics include railways, providing 1-1.5 million tons per month, and road transport generating 200-300 thousand tons. The construction of border crossing points continues, including four additional lanes for trucks at the border with Romania, which will double the throughput capacity. A bridge over the Dniester is also being built to launch the 'Yampol-Kosevtsy' emergency project. Derkach acknowledged that the reorientation to alternative routes increases logistics costs, which negatively affects grain exporters.
