US Expands Sanctions on Iran, Targeting Digital Assets
The United States' pressure on Iran is shifting from military operations to sanctions and financial blockades. While navigation through the Strait of Hormuz has partially recovered, it has not yet normalized, and the U.S. Treasury's sanctions now include pathways related to digital assets. On the 24th, the U.S. Treasury announced the launch of 'Operation Economic Outcast,' expanding secondary sanctions related to Iran to five sectors: digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping. It was also emphasized that the Iranian regime is utilizing cryptocurrencies to evade sanctions and conduct transactions linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). As of the 27th, there were 10 traceable cargo ships that passed through the Strait of Hormuz, an increase from 8 the previous day, but still below the 10-day moving average of 15. China has expressed its opposition to the expansion of U.S. sanctions, stating that it opposes unilateral sanctions without international law and United Nations Security Council approval. In the South Korean market, the low data on navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and the expansion of U.S. sanctions into cryptocurrency trading networks are drawing attention.
