gumi and SBI Launch Cryptocurrency Fund with Investment from Daiwa Securities Group
On the 28th, gumi announced that it will start operating the cryptocurrency management fund "SBI Crypto Fund I," jointly established with SBI Financial Services through its subsidiary, gC Labs, from August 1.
The fund has several investors, including Daiwa Securities Group, and will be launched as a "co-creation type cryptocurrency management fund."
Management Policy and Market Formation Goals
The mission of this fund is to act as a bridge between the cryptocurrency market and Japanese companies by investing in and providing liquidity to the cutting-edge areas of the web3 industry. It plans to manage a portfolio centered on listed cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and major altcoins, by combining staking, rebalancing, and hedging strategies.
With the anticipated lifting of the ban on cryptocurrency ETFs in Japan, the fund aims to establish a leading position in future market formation by accumulating operational performance and data.
Aiming for Next-Generation Financial Products through Collaboration
Both companies aim not only to generate investment returns but also to combine the security and compliance systems and operational know-how cultivated in traditional finance with insights from cryptocurrency management to create new management opportunities and business synergies.
In anticipation of the lifting of restrictions on cryptocurrency-related products, they will verify and accumulate operational performance and logic within this fund, working towards building a system that can withstand future product reviews and audits.
They will also initiate joint research on portfolio strategies that combine traditional assets and cryptocurrencies, utilizing the accumulated data.
Considering the potential for incorporating cryptocurrencies to improve the Sharpe ratio in managed products such as investment trusts, they are advancing discussions on next-generation financial products that meet new asset formation needs.
Fund Overview and Investment Ratio
The investment structure of this fund is an anonymous partnership, with a private placement format, a fund size of approximately 3 billion yen, and a duration of 3 years. The investment ratio of the managing company, SBI Crypto Fund LLC, is 51% for SBI Financial Services and 49% for gC Labs, a wholly-owned subsidiary of gumi.
The company stated that this announcement is intended for public relations regarding business activities and does not imply or guarantee future operational results, nor is it intended as an invitation to the fund.
