Eliza Labs has terminated its token-related projects following an agreement with Burwick Law. The company's founder, Shaw Walters, also confirmed that the foundation associated with the ecosystem has ceased operations.
This decision marks the end of the strategy related to the digital asset, while the technological development surrounding artificial intelligence agents will take a different path.
The controversy began to escalate in April when Burwick Law filed a federal class action lawsuit against Walters, Eliza Labs, and other entities associated with the project.
The lawsuit has been filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, alleging false advertising, deceptive business practices, negligent misrepresentation, and illegal profits.
Among the allegations is that the project was presented to participants as an AI-managed autonomous investment structure.
The lawsuit also questions the level of control exerted by Walters and other management members. It mentions the migration of the token ai16z to ElizaOS.
Walters stated that available resources were insufficient to sustain a prolonged legal dispute. Therefore, the team chose to transfer the remaining balance as part of the settlement.
"Their allegations are absurd, but we don't have the funds to contest them in court, so we agreed to give them everything we had left," Walters said.
The founder also denied any future attempts to create new tokens related to Eliza. According to him, the foundation will not conduct buybacks or implement new measures related to the asset supply.
"The token is dead. Completely dead. The foundation is being shut down," Walters wrote. "I am starting from scratch because I own the intellectual property, and I will never allow any token to come near Eliza again."
The plan is set to launch in 2024 under the name ai16z, operating on the Solana network, with proposals aimed at decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) and AI-driven investments.
By early 2025, the project will begin using the ElizaOS brand and focus on an open-source code structure for creating and managing AI agents.
"We will still be here in 10 years, exploring the limits of what agents can do and going where big corporations won't," Walters said.
After the foundation closes, Walters plans to separate technology development from any tokens; he will concentrate Eliza's intellectual property on open-source tools aimed at AI agents.
