Argentina's Video Analyst Discusses the 2026 World Cup Final: "Spain Was Far Superior"
Argentina's video analyst, Matías Manna, shared his experience of living through nearly two months of the 2026 World Cup, particularly reflecting on the final against Spain: "I will align with what everyone has said, which is that Spain was far superior, and it is also true that we must highlight that they have been playing almost the same way for 10 or 15 years," he stated.
He also recounted an intimate part of his profession that prevents him from working under the best circumstances: "Since Qatar 2022, I haven't been able to watch the extra time to analyze it tactically. This time it happened to me again. The final minutes against Spain are very emotional and cannot be studied."
Upon returning to the country after the World Cup, he made it clear that taking this position is a privilege for him and that they have resumed work: "We are already watching the friendlies that the players are playing and also analyzing the U-15, U-17, and U-20 teams. This is the job that everyone would like to have," he affirmed on Vuelta y media from Urbana Play.
Matías Manna earned a place in the national team's consideration during Jorge Sampaoli's cycle in 2017. He went to the 2018 World Cup in Russia and was later recruited by Lionel Scaloni as his main video analyst and tactical collaborator, so this initiative to return to work as soon as possible could also indicate a possible continuity of the coach at the helm of the Albiceleste.
Regarding Argentina's youth teams, he emphasized that what Spain has achieved, in reference to emerging talents, can also be done by the country: "There is a style, a way of playing in Argentina over all these years: coming together through passes, through the ball. I hope that in 10, 15, or 20 years Argentina continues to play the same way... that will surely lead you to a process with better chances of winning," he concluded.
On another note, one of the current topics is the conspiracy theories surrounding what happened in the World Cup final, where social media claims that the "Scaloneta" lost due to factors external to sports, and that it occurred due to some kind of extortion of the players.
Manna decided to bring calm regarding this. "I heard what was said, but these are things that happen when one loses. Perhaps they suspect because everything is filmed now and they try to twist things. What happened on the field happened: congratulate the one who was better on the field and move on," concluded the national team's video analyst.
According to FIFA, the next international match window is scheduled between September 21 and October 6. It is not yet confirmed against whom or on what days the matches will be played, although it is already known that it will not be the South American Qualifiers, which will begin at the end of next year.
While there are still several FIFA dates for friendlies to be scheduled, it is expected that Conmebol and Uefa will reach an agreement for the Finalissima between Argentina and Spain, which was suspended a few months ago due to the military conflict in the Middle East and has not been rescheduled, coincidentally with both teams reaching the World Cup final.
