Why Did Bitcoin Initially Drop After the Fed Held Rates Steady?
The Fed kept interest rates unchanged at 3.50%–3.75%, but Bitcoin still slipped from about $64,176 to $63,620 shortly after the decision — a drop of roughly 0.9%. The rate hold itself wasn't the surprise; markets had already priced that in. What likely weighed on price was the unexpectedly hawkish 9–3 vote, with three Fed officials pushing for a rate hike instead. Ethereum fell in tandem, and the same 24-hour window saw more than $400 million in leveraged crypto positions liquidated — a pattern consistent with leveraged traders rapidly repositioning after a more hawkish vote split than expected.
