Solana Slot Time Reduced to 250ms, Block Jump Rate Stabilized, Caution Needed for 200ms Target
Solana's official website announced that the network has reduced the Slot Time target from 400ms to 250ms, during which the block jump rate remained stable. The downtime caused by consecutive block jumps has decreased from over 1800ms to about 1200 to 1400ms. The shortening of Slot Time has led to an increase in voting latency, with Asian and South American nodes being significantly affected. Currently, the average voting latency on the network is below 2 Slots, and there are no signs of consensus instability. However, caution is still needed to lower the target Slot Time to 200ms before the launch of Alpenglow. Under the 250ms target, the probability of validators losing voting points has decreased compared to 400ms, and the maximum duration for a single validator to exercise leadership continuously has also shortened, with P99 dropping from about 3 seconds to about 2 seconds.
