Changxin and Yangtze Memory Expand into North America with Apple's Quality Validation
Changxin Memory and Yangtze Memory are expanding as Apple seeks to integrate these two Chinese memory suppliers into its supply chain, drawing attention to their entry into Apple's ecosystem. The two manufacturers leverage Apple's endorsement to demonstrate that Chinese DRAM and NAND Flash quality have reached international standards. They are selling to North American cloud service providers through third-party assembly, aiming to increase their market share in the cloud and enterprise sectors. Changxin Technology has completed fundraising of 29.5 billion RMB, while Yangtze Memory plans to raise approximately 33 billion RMB through an IPO for production line upgrades and R&D. Yangtze Memory expects to turn a profit in 2024, with a net profit attributable to the parent company reaching 33.379 billion RMB in the first quarter of 2026. The third phase of its new factory is set to commence production in the fourth quarter of 2026, with a total monthly capacity of 100,000 wafers, of which about 20% will be trial production of LPDDR, making it the first DRAM base. Supply chain sources indicate that both manufacturers are expected to increase China's local memory self-sufficiency rate to over 50% by the end of 2027 to 2028. Yangtze Memory sells NAND to third-party module manufacturers, which are assembled into enterprise-grade SSDs, avoiding sensitivity regarding the place of origin. Changxin Memory has already received certification from small and medium-sized cloud providers in the U.S. and Canada. U.S. private enterprises can procure from both companies, as the entity list primarily restricts their access to U.S. technology but does not fully prohibit private procurement. Cloud providers are reducing compliance risks by renting computing power or holding assets through third parties. Industry experts believe that Apple's influence on supply and demand in the industry is declining, and neither company intends to supply Apple in large quantities or engage in price competition, making it difficult to meet Apple's demand in the Chinese market in the short term.
