Park Hyun-joo Announces Plans for Gold-Based Digital Coin Valued at 20 to 30 Trillion Won
Park Hyun-joo, chairman of Mirae Asset Group, presented plans for a gold-based digital coin valued at 20 to 30 trillion won and a capital increase plan for Digital X amounting to 200 to 300 billion won through Digital X. At an event held on the 26th at the Four Seasons Hotel in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, he explained the combination of traditional assets and digital assets as the mid- to long-term direction for Mirae Asset Group. Chairman Park mentioned the tokenization of large-cap stocks such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, as well as the concept of coins based on physical assets like gold and electricity. Digital X operates the domestic virtual asset exchange Korbit and has changed its corporate name to Digital X while maintaining the exchange service name. He stated that he aims to build a digital financial infrastructure encompassing stablecoins, RWA, and STO through Digital X. RWA refers to a method of linking the value or rights of real assets to blockchain-based tokens, while STO involves the issuance and circulation of rights in token form that have the characteristics of securities. Chairman Park pointed out that while Bitcoin is referred to as 'digital gold,' it is not directly linked to physical gold, and he revealed the concept of a 'digital gold coin' based on physical gold. He mentioned plans to implement a third-party allocation capital increase of 200 to 300 billion won in the first quarter of next year regarding the capital expansion of Digital X.
