George Gonçalves, the head of U.S. macro strategy at Mitsubishi UFJ Securities Americas, stated that Waller's concise style gives more weight to the June meeting minutes than usual, providing valuable insights into the differing positions among Federal Reserve officials.
"The minutes will become more important because so far, we don't know what the Fed is thinking," Gonçalves said. "Seeing how they debate and what they focus on will be very enlightening."
He added that some investors have questioned Waller's "hands-off" approach, with many hoping for a return to greater transparency. Many market participants are not used to the reduction in information, and there remains a considerable degree of skepticism about how long the Fed can maintain this. For now, we can only interpret the meaning between the lines.
