Changpeng Zhao, founder of Binance, stated that the rate of illegal activity in the crypto sector is only 0.0014% of transactions, significantly lower than the estimated 2%-5% for traditional finance. During his speech at the ASEAN Tech Summit on July 31, 2026, CZ addressed accusations of crime in the crypto world, presenting data that contradicts public perception. He emphasized that the transparency of blockchain makes it more difficult to conduct large-scale illicit activities, as every transaction is visible and verifiable. CZ highlighted that the traceability of funds on the blockchain is a useful investigative tool, not a risk. He also stated that criminal activity must be separated from technology, stressing that the illicit use of cash or bank accounts does not imply that the banking system is the problem, and the same applies to blockchain.
