Aptos Mainnet Launches Encrypted Memory Pool, Keeping Transaction Content Encrypted Until Confirmation
Aptos blog announced that the encrypted memory pool has been launched on the mainnet, with the related proposal being AIP-144. Users can choose whether to encrypt transaction content; when enabled, the transaction content is encrypted on the client side before submission, preventing block proposers from seeing the transaction content for sorting. After the block is finally confirmed, validators collectively decrypt and execute it, while the sender's address and gas fees remain visible. Decryption requires reaching the same staking weight threshold as block production, meaning a single validator or a subset of validators with less than two-thirds of the staking weight cannot decrypt pending transactions. Aptos stated that this solution adds approximately 20 milliseconds of delay per block in a benchmark test with 50 nodes and has passed a security audit by ZKSecurity. Currently, the Petra wallet supports this feature, and the perpetual contract exchange Decibel on Aptos will use the encrypted memory pool to protect order privacy.
