79% of Bond Market Participants Expect the Base Rate to Remain Unchanged at the Monetary Policy Committee on the 27th
79% of bond market participants expect the Bank of Korea's Monetary Policy Committee to keep the base rate unchanged on the 27th. This marks a shift in expectations towards a freeze compared to the 66% who anticipated a rate hike in the July survey. The Korea Financial Investment Association announced the results of a survey conducted with 100 respondents on the 25th. Among the respondents, 79% predicted that the base rate would remain unchanged at the August Monetary Policy Committee meeting, while 20% expected an increase. The Base Rate BMSI rose to 81.0, an increase of 47.0 points from the previous month. The Bank of Korea raised the base rate from 2.50% to 2.75% on July 16, and this meeting is considered crucial in determining whether there will be consecutive rate hikes. The Comprehensive BMSI increased by 3.3 points to 89.5, but still fell short of the baseline of 100. The Interest Rate Outlook BMSI rose by 15.0 points to 99.0. The percentage of respondents expecting a stable rate increased by 13 percentage points to 69%, while those anticipating a hike decreased by 14 percentage points to 16%. The Inflation BMSI fell by 2.0 points to 97.0, and the Exchange Rate BMSI dropped by 30.0 points to 99.0. The results of this survey are related to the base rate decision and economic outlook announcement scheduled for the Monetary Policy Committee on the 27th.
