18 Bitcoin Mining Equipment Seized in Paraguay
The National Electricity Administration (ANDE) and the Public Ministry of Paraguay seized 18 Bitcoin mining equipment in Ciudad del Este. The intervention was carried out after detecting an irregular electricity supply that powered this infrastructure. State technicians found an alteration in the measurement system of the property, allowing the use of energy without recording its consumption. During the operation, it was confirmed that the wiring in phases 2 and 3 had been manipulated, causing the meter not to register the actual consumption. The infraction resulted in a financial damage of 319,000,000 guaraníes (approximately 55,000 US dollars), including intervention costs and fines according to Law 966/64 of ANDE. The theft of energy is a crime under the Paraguayan Penal Code, and Law No. 7300/24 establishes penalties of up to 10 years in prison and fines. This operation adds to others carried out in the region to address the irregular use of electrical energy.
